Previous to the establishment of St. Edward Church, people of Kinde attended mass at St. Mary's located near Kinde, in Dwight Township or other neighboring parishes.
In 1909 the first services were held in the Kinde Store.
The church was built in 1912, but it wasn't until 1917 that Fr. Bortnowski was assigned as a resident pastor. Until that time it was a mission parish of Sacred Heart, Bad Axe.
During the 1920's the steeple and church bell was installed.
Fire destroyed the rectory on March 27, 1948. The home of Joseph Wagner was purchased as rectory, and a parish hall was built on the site of the original rectory. An addition to the hall was made in 1960.
